Number base converter is an online tool which converts a number between the four common bases: binary, decimal, octal and hexadecimal. Enter a number in one base and get it in all the others at once.
The usage of this online tool is super easy. Just place the number into the input field and tell the tool which base it is written in - decimal by default, or pick hexadecimal, binary or octal in more input options. A leading 0x, 0b or 0o prefix is accepted as well. Next, click on Convert bases button. Finally, you can see the number in all four bases in the output area.
Why these bases?
Decimal is the human counting system with ten digits. Binary uses two digits, 0 and 1, and is what computers store. Hexadecimal packs four bits into one digit with sixteen symbols 0-9 and A-F, which makes binary data - bytes, colours, hashes - readable in half the space. Octal, base eight, appears in old systems and Unix file permissions.
One hexadecimal digit always maps to exactly four binary digits, which is why developers read hex dumps daily. Hash values of the MD5 and SHA tools are hexadecimal strings as well.
